Global Village =)

sunny 27 °C

Hi guys,

so here I am, in Canada's big Apple, Toronto City. I will start off with the most important piece of information I have for you: it's hot out. I spent the whole day walking around town in the Harbour Front area and already got a sunburn.
My flight was good though long (8 hours between London and Toronto) and I got to see the stunning Atlantic Ocean and the endless no mans land of northern Canada where the only thing you see for hours is rocks, ice and many rivers and lakes. When approaching Toronto, I could already see the CN tower and the SkyDome (the baseball stadium, home to the Toronto Blue Jays). The first thing I say when coming out of the subway station was... a Randstad building. What the hell? Beside that, everything looked impressive with big glass skyscrapers and I almost immediately saw the CN tower up close. My hostel is right in between Entertainment District and Fashion district (as you'll see on the map), so it's a very glamorous street which is right now the scene for the Toronto International Film Festival (Brad Pitt is in town grr).
At night I went to Kensington Market area and China Town with some girls from my dorm and we had a grilled cheese, which is said to be a Toronto specialty. The Canadian girl I was with demonstrated how easy it is to get weed around those neighborhoods. You just need to know what to call it, because they change the code name every now and then so the police don't pick it up. Right now it's 'hydro' (I shouldn't have said that).
This morning, I had my first maple syrup pancakes for breakfast at the hostel. Tasted good, but it felt like i just licked up a lump of butter and it lay melting away in my stomach for hours after. I'll have rice crispies tomorrow ;). So as I said, I walked around the Harbour Front area and then into St Lawrence market; an enormous two-story indoor market area where they sold impressive things like live lobsters and really good things like vegetable and shrimp tempura. I've been wandering around all day, past Union Station, the Air Canada Centre, the SkyDome and the CN tower and then went back to lay in the sun at Harbour Front. What a lovely day! I'll be off to heal my wounded skin now, with hopes that someone brought a cream.

Love,

Lau
